Chihuly Inspired Chandelier

8th grade Sculpture students, Art club, and some 7th graders made this free standing chandelier based on the work of Chihuly.  Chihuly creates large hand-blown glass sculptures such as the one below.  The sculpture is made of about 350 recycled water bottles and is made in the school colors of Blue, Red, and Gold.
The process:
1. Students cut off the bottoms of the bottles and painted the insides.
2. They “splayed” the bottles with heat guns to melt the plastic to stay in a spiral shape.
3. Next, they toggled the bottles together and tied them with twine.

4. Then, the bottles were tied to an armature base, made from chicken wire wrapped around a tomato cage.
